We complain about our weight. We complain about our health. We complain about our finances. We complain about our kids. We complain about our boss. We complain about a lot of things so I'm going to give you a quick test. Before you complain the next time, ask yourself this question. If you answer "yes," then you are not allowed to complain about it. Here's the question: Are you permitting it? Are you permitting the weight gain by not taking corrective action? Are you permitting the debt to pile up by not being fiscally responsible? Are you permitting your kids to talk back and smart off to you by not correcting their behavior...authoritatively? The rule of thumb is this - Never Complain About What You Permit!
Listen to yourself for the next week and identify what you typically complain about. Whatever you tolerate, you permit. Toleration is unspoken permission. If you're permitting it (even through toleration), then you forfeit the right to complain about it. Quint Studer, Founder/CEO of Studer Group - a healthcare consulting company, says it this way in his Hardwiring Excellence book: "Whatever You Permit, You Promote!" The very behavior you abhor becomes the standard when it is not addressed. I recommend you never allow yourself to complain verbally. That truly is the way of a winner.
I love you and believe in you!
