As my husband and I were teaching our 8 year old daughter to ride her new "big girl" bike this morning, it reminded me of an important lesson I recently learned in my own life. He repeatedly kept saying, "You have control of the bike, don't let the bike control you". Do you have anyone or anything in your life that you are allowing to control the happiness in your life? Maybe it is the circumstances of a job or a person in your life. If they are in a bad mood...you are in a bad mood. If things are going wrong at work....you are destined to have a bad day. Sound familiar?

I am blessed to be married to an incredible teacher and motivator. So with everything that happens in my life, I am constantly hearing quotes he has ingrained in my head like "You are where you are because of the choices you make" or "Never complain about that which you permit". What are you permitting in your life that is causing you to lose control of your happiness? How many times have you heard " I would be happy if my husband/wife would just ..... or I would be love my job if it weren't for ..... .

So what are you supposed to do? Often times what people do is try to change the wrong factor. One of the most important lessons I have learned in my life is that you can change no one but yourself. No matter how hard you try, you cannot change the person that you are allowing to control your happiness. In fact, it often makes matters worse. So what are you supposed to do? It is really quite simple - take ownership. Make the decision to refuse to let other people or problems in your life steal your happiness. The only person responsible for your happiness is you! Once you make the choice, you will be surprised how quickly you regain genuine fulfillment in every area of your life and positive outlook on your future. It is worth it, I hope you make the decision today!
